Karen Nankwanga

Karen Nankwanga is a lawyer and Project Management Practitioner with experience in Energy, Climate Policy and Sustainability.

She is currently working with the United Kingdom (UK) Government, Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub as the Program and Project Coordinator for the RCEF Energy Fund.  Karen is passionate about Renewable Energy Policy and Regulation, Sustainability and Climate Change Mitigation and the Extractives Industry. Her work cuts across the development of Net Zero Strategies and supporting the development of alternative sources of energy to ensure that Net Zero Targets and energy access is protected in a sustainable way that guarantees the existence of resources for future generations.

She has carried out research on the Dynamics of Renewable Energy Financing, Developing Capacity Mechanisms for Renewable Energy and how to use Renewable Energy as a tool for climate change mitigation and ensure Energy security.

She has also published work on the Integration of Renewable Energy into the Sub-Saharan Energy market, as well as the development of Energy Tariffs Guidelines for Energy Regulation. She has also co-authored a Chapter on International Energy Arbitration in East Africa for a book project titled “International Energy Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in Africa”.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB. Hons) from Makerere University Kampala, Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LDC), Master of Laws in International Energy Law and Policy (LLM) (Distinction) from University of Dundee, Scotland. She is also a certified Project Management Practitioner with a specialisation in PRINCE 2 (Projects in Controlled Environments).
